Location
Lefokastro is a charming fishing village in southern Pelion, where stone houses with red-tiled roofs blend seamlessly into lush greenery that stretches right down to the water’s edge. Nestled along the Pagasitic Gulf, this tranquil destination offers visitors the quintessential Pelion experience, peaceful days, inviting coasts perfect for swimming and a timeless atmosphere shaped by both mountain and sea. The village’s history whispers through its landmarks, from the Byzantine-era ruins beneath the Church of Panagia to the graceful stone arch bridge built in 1891 and the “Great Spring” dating back to 1777. Strolling through Lefokastro feels like stepping into a living postcard, where tradition and natural beauty coexist in harmony. Despite its small size, Lefokastro boasts four distinct beaches, each with its own character. Families will enjoy the central pebble beach with its shallow, crystal-clear waters and nearby tavernas, while Razi beach offers a more secluded escape shaded by tamarisk trees. Agia Euthymia, affectionately called “Agiathymia” by locals, lies just beyond the village, while adventurous visitors can follow a stone path to Gournas beach, a hidden sandy cove framed by reeds and cypresses, it's an idyllic spot to watch the sunset. After a day by the sea, unwind at the beach bar with coffee and lunch or delight on fresh seafood at the taverna or the cafe-restaurant (Open June-Sept inc). Lefokastro may be modest in size, but its blend of history, nature and authentic hospitality makes it a shining gem of Pelion, all waiting to be discovered.
